PLANNING TIMELINE

EXTENDING A PROMENADE ON THE SOUTHERN, UPPER RIM OF THE GREENWAY

The City will be kicking off the community planning process for the Kmart site with Phase 1: Launch & Listen later in 2022

Community members were excited about the idea to connect a walkway along the upper sides of the Midtown Greenway as new development comes online. This would provide new options for walking through the area and increase visibility to and from the Greenway

The Nicollet Area Leadership Team developed 9 Guiding Principles for the Nicollet and Lake area process in October 2021

Prioritize care for people, center empathy and heart in our process.
Attend to power dynamics by hearing perspectives across power differences, e.g. tenants and landlords.
Support people’s agency.
Ensure we are hearing voices that are not often at the table.
Keep purpose at the center and build trust in all parts of the process.
Recognize Lake Street’s wealth of community knowledge and embrace the diversity of lived experiences and perspectives.
Practice a commitment to authenticity through honesty and transparency.
Create a space for hope and healing.
Attend to the now while building for future generations.
Push against the status quo of funding, development, etc. by expecting risk-taking and flexibility.
