Bloomington and Lake Shared Visions

The Bloomington and Lake area is home to many Somali and Latinx small businesses and richly surrounded by residents as well as creative practitioners

Here’s a map of properties and businesses impacted by the uprising

MIGIZI's location on 27th Avenue burned down in 2020 and they are in the process of renovating a new location at 1845 Lake Street

In the future, MIGIZI's new home will nurture the development of American Indian youth and a home for all youth along Lake Street

The Jigjiga Business Center and In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater are cultural anchors and businesses in the Bloomington and Lake area exploring projects.

Bloomington and Lake Priorities

  • Build on partnerships, such as MIGIZI and Pioneers & Soldiers Cemetery developing native medicine gardens with American Indian youth

  • Support the opening and activation of Plaza Centenario as an important outdoor space for the Latinx community

  • Support planned development projects (Jigjiga Business Center, Avalon Theater renovation, etc.)

  • Create a home for all youth on Lake Street (MIGIZI, YWCA, YMCA, etc.)

  • Celebrate the wins and projects that are happening

  • Deepen relationships and collaboration
